Alright, so its been a while since the last post. Perhaps life will one day catch up to our intentions… Perhaps Not!

I catch my self reviewing the outworking of some of our actions in relation to the many great intentions that we have carried. Ok, me not we… So I lead a team of passionate and gifted people, who love what they do and they do it so very well. But what never seems to amaze me is how we tend to trip up over one another from time to time. It’s not like any one of us are out to get each other yet we find ourselves backed up against a wall, defending a sesation of… oh yes, that’s just me.

Anyways, what I am tryoing to make sence of is how it has become so very important to do business in the way that the textbook and schools prescribe. When in fact those very same ‘ways’ are tearing our team apart.

A good friend used to talk about dealing with the life of doing business when the models have unwound and it all just looks like a muddle!? It is the business of finding ways to connect with our people, in ways that we remain real people AND can get on with doing what we came here to do!

In stead we often find ourselves at the scene of a train crash, when our cultures collide at the ‘station’ of our workplace. I guess that is why we have started at the place of work in our journey to discover and share ways that we, and others, can connect rather than collide. In all the sessions that I have facilitated, and in all the people that our teams have worked with, I have found very few, if a hand full, who really carry ill intent.

In the words of Kurth Hahn, “there IS more in you than you think”. Take the step… and let the real ‘you’ out.

Ciao

Robin

I try to lead along the ideas and principles of organic leadership. One thing that stands out more clearly than anything else is that it is very messy and very sca’rrrry. However, not nearly as scary as the thought of having manage a group of creative people who natuarally give their best when given the opportunity to shine.

So how do we ensure that individuals enjoy such an opportunity to shine in their gifts and talents while maintaining and exceeding the company goals and expectations. I believe that it can be facilitated through an organising principle, or rather, a set vision and a set of values.

Our vision is tied into elements that are longer lasting than the quarterly review. In this way we hope that our people can find s sence of space in the monthly targets to deal with the daily dilemma’s in such a way that pulls us all forward beyound the task at hand.

Our success seems to be tied into the ability to communicate these tasks in such a way that they each find their place within the organizing principles of our vision. That is one way that we free up each individual to ‘control’ how they manages their work towards reaching and exceeding our goals.

The truth is that it often gets quite messy, however when we get it right… boy do our people shine!

Have you ever read a book entitled “Good to Great” or “Built to last”? If you are in business or own and lead a one, these are definite ‘must reads’!

So let me take a leaf out of those great pages to describe what we are on about. Like a motor that has many parts so is the complexity of running a business. And doing that successfully is more than an art, and mostly a whole lot of luck. That makes me think of the quote, “the harder I work… the luckier I get”. I cannot remember who said that but I wish it was me.

As we pour our efforts into leading our teams around a vision and a set of goals that would maximize our resources we may find getting going a whole lot more difficult than keeping on the move. And so the concept f motivation for momentum. Just like the flywheel in a motor, an essential part of the machinery that keeps it ‘ticking over’, so we have come to find that a little motivation in the right place at the right time can energize a people, and keep the fires of momentum burning.

Letting those fires die down can be detrimental to a business, and heart breaking to a leader. There are few things worse than having to ‘cold start’ a group of people without vision, passion and energy.

So Motivation4Momentum hopes to provide insight and thought that can prove to be such a touch of motivation, at the top of the pendulum, that fuels motivation for just another cycle.

All that it takes to find success and greatness is the persistence of just one more step.
